Daniel is Metal…
Philip’s Write Up:
This deck isn’t your traditional clay deck. It doesn’t run Mary, Peter, John, Matthias, or Joanna. It does want a Matthew boost, but it also runs one uncommon character: James, the Fisherman (“Big James” as he’s called in The Chosen). Why? To negate ALL neutrals: to negate my artifact, Scroll of Isaiah, obtained from reserve (five ways to this card in deck!).
Scroll of Isaiah says that good convert enhancements (not just abilities!) are CBN; the granting of the modifier is CBN, but the rest of the artifact is negated. Thus, the opponent isn’t given the option to “instead” the convert. And this deck is loaded with convert cards: Great Commission, Love One Another, Redemption, and His Sacrifice. This deck is crueler against demon or animal decks because they cannot be converted, but the enhancements are still CBN without James, dealing other damage to non-humans. And it’s nice to pair this CBN convert stuff with Andrew-negate-everything from reserve! This Scroll/James combo was a bug that YTG Pastor Andy put in my ear.
If Scroll is removed or never gotten out of reserve, Bartholomew makes Gospel enhancements CBN, as does Spirit as a dove. Authority of Christ is also an awesome enhancement. So if this strategy doesn’t take off, it’s OK.
Maybe James is slowing me down. Maybe. But it is nice to say, “Uh, that’s negated. Because of James.” 🙂
Now, John could be in the deck, but John doesn’t convert to clay. Peter does, but he gets me only one card, Herod’s Temple. I may remove an angel hero to include Philip in a future tournament version of the deck.
The neutral cards I run are compatible with Big James half the time, too. I run all meek souls, but probably could have gotten away with Wicked or Humble since they are CBN. Golden Cherubim is CBN. Send the Helper is not CBN, but I could use the enhancement side. Golgotha’s search ability can be negated, but not the granting of the CBP modifier!
When the evil characters are converted, my defense can make use of them: good ol’ Simon the Host, to choose the attacker. And who better to choose than that villain I just converted to Teal or Blue or Red? Because Simon is 3/11, it’ll probably end in stalemate, unless they fight me with a dominant.
The rest of the defense is grey Pharisees stuff, with a Sadducees splash.
The Potiphar you see in the screenshot should be the roots version, sorry.
