To get ready for Mr. Classic, Jayden is visiting a favorite theme: Judges and Babylonians. With the new Roots cards, Babylonians got some new tools to work with! Let’s see how they feel in T1 Rotation.

This week for Lackey Grand Prix #14 we’re getting ready for Mr. Classic by trying out a Rotation version of some of my favorite Classic themes. Not only are these themes two of my favorites, but they’re actually the same themes I used in the “Scrolls Only” deck that won me the Mr. Classic title belt last year at the first ever tournament of its kind–Judges and Babylonians. These themes haven’t gotten a whole lot of love in Rotation and only recently did they both get the cards to bring them into the realm of Rotation viability. I think Babylonians have been there to some degree, but I think Redemption Roots gave them the extra little oomph they needed. Judges, on the other hand, also got some stuff from Roots but still leave a lot to be desired… But I wasn’t going to let that stop me from giving it a whirl to see what they’re made of. My opponent this week is Jonathan “TXJonathan672” Steckmann, who brought a “GoldenEye”-esque offense with a splashy pale green Artifact-manipulation defense.

Jayden started playing Redemption around 2004 when his brothers taught him to play and he attended his first National Tournament in 2005. Since then, he has become a competitive (mostly Type 2) player with a few National titles and, more importantly, has acquired many great friends and mentors through the game. However, in the years leading up to 2020, there has been a downward trend in attendance at some of the big tournaments, Nationals included. As a result, Jayden wanted to start doing something that would help pique and maintain interest in Redemption and he decided to do so in the form of a YouTube channel called Redemption with Jayden, which he started in June 2020 shortly after graduating college. He loves being able to share decks, games, and strategies, and hopes that the channel can be a useful resource for players at every level of the game.
