A Sneak Peek at GoC: Spoilers and Updates

The release of Gospel of Christ phase 1 is just around the corner. As we’re waiting for our chance to hold these amazing new cards some of our community members are compiling what we know.

Gospel of Christ Phase 1 Spoilers

If you aren’t on the Redemption Discord, you’ve missed quite a few cool spoilers from GoC phase 1, not to mention lots of great discussion with our Redemption community! You also might not know that on Christmas day, the leadership team allow us to post a full GoC phase 1 checklist here on Land of Redemption. Go to our “Cards and Rules” page and scroll down to Gospel of Christ to get your copy of the checklist.

Shortly before that checklist came out, the Threshing Floor’s John Hendrix shared his “GoC Spoiler Guide“. This was the first comprehensive list anyone compiled all of the known spoilers for Gospel of Christ phase 1.

More recently RobM Studios has compiled three videos for us. The first is a nice summary and commentary of all that was known about GoC at the time. The second discusses all 18 of the Legacy Rare cards being released in GoC. The third video covers three of the Legacy Rare images that weren’t available for the previous video as well as some of the new promos and a brand new GoC spoiler at the end! All three videos will be shared at the end of this post.

Land of Redemption has also updated our Legacy Rare and Promo sections on the “Cards and Rules” page. The check lists, spreadsheets and links to our Imgur account have all cards to date, including the GoC LRs that are coming soon.

Gospel of Christ Phase 2 Updates

Testing for GoC phase 2 is going well. The crimson thieves, evil gold Herods and white empty tomb Heroes are all in a pretty good place. Only a few minor updates are probably needed for those to be ready to go to print.

The nativity theme, which consists of both angels and white Heroes, has gone through some changes to help the theme feel more distinct and to have the cards work together better. One theme that run through the Christmas story is humility. Christ lowered himself from His divine throne to become a human baby. The manner in which he did that was to people of “low” status in their culture. He was born in a barn and slept in a feeding trough. Even the angels who announced his birth didn’t do so to noblemen and kings, but too “lowly” shepherds.

So how does all of that apply to the nativity theme? For those who have been around for a while, think back to Zebulun. Now imagine an entire offense built around having a low hand count and/or the opponent having hand advantage!

The theme we’re using for our orange Gospel demons proved to be pretty bonkers in Type 2, causing a number of the cards to be toned down. It turns out we went too far, or maybe the wrong direction on some of them. We’re trying a new approach but finding a balance is proving difficult.

In silver the Gospel angels are split between three different themes – empty tomb, nativity and their own all angels build. The first two are working well, but the all silver offense felt like it was lacking. We’ve made a number of adjustments that we hope will remedy that. Testing over the next few weeks will tell if that’s the case.

One of the new Dominants in phase 2 is doing things we’ve never done with a Dominant before. It’s been challenging to find the balance with how good we want this card to be. Early on it was pretty underwhelming. More recently it was able to do some downright broken things! We think we might have it in a good place now but it still needs to undergo additional testing.

Our goal is to have GoC phase 2 at the printer by mid-February to ensure that we will have it in plenty of time for a Nationals release!
