First things first – let’s give a huge round of applause to Scott for keeping things going here on Land of Redemption the past few months! I’m extremely appreciative of his hard work during my extended absence!
Absence? I realize most of you didn’t even know I was gone. Actually I haven’t really gone anywhere but my time investment into this wonderful game of Redemption has been focused on other efforts. So what exactly have I been up to?
Move Over Bacon
“Move Over Bacon” is the code name for the upcoming 2017 set release. This fall we’ve spent a good amount of time trying to flesh out the ideas and concepts that we want to implement in the next Redemption set. We’re in the midst of the play testing season where we find out which of those concepts are working (sometimes too well), which aren’t working and which need adjusted. I’m really excited for these new cards and the way they will change the game for the better!
Following up a set like Cloud of Witnesses isn’t easy. That set was such a phenomenal success! How do we do that again but in a different way? Hebrews was a rather easy book to work with because of the way it approached such a broad section of scripture. This year’s theme has required more creativity on our part to keep things diverse. It’s been a fun process but also a challenging one!
Nationals 2017
Nationals 2017 is planned to be held in North Liberty, Iowa August 3-5. My partner Jesse and I have the honor of co-hosting the tournament this year! You can expect more information on this soon. For now, mark your calendar and schedule your vacation time! We can’t wait to see you all there!
Play Groups
Hosting a play group and helping other local groups get started take time and effort. We now have three different play group leaders in our area getting players together to enjoy fun and fellowship through Redemption. This is totally something God has done, not through efforts of my own. I just get to be a part of the process and serve people as they come to me with questions and seeking advice.
Early this morning (or late last night depending on your perspective) I finally finished the post Nationals 2016 sorting of my vast card collection. It was long over due and something I had not made a top priority. It will make deck building much easier for me. I also know which cards I have extra copies of again for the players in our area.
What About Land of Redemption’s Future?
A lot of my time and effort still needs to go into the things I mentioned above. But I do intend to start writing again. Shortly before we started Cloud of Witness previews last spring I wanted to write an article (or short series) about “results based thinking”. Those are deep waters but something I think the community can benefit from. I hope to get that done for you soon.
We will also be checking in with past authors to see if we can’t get some more content flowing from the community, for the community. This is the time of year many of us spend more time gaming so I’m sure people have fun ideas, decks, and stories to share. If you haven’t written for Land of Redemption before but feel like you have something to share, please contact Scott or I. We’d love to work with you to publish your content!
Before we know it, previews will start for “Move Over Bacon” and there will be more content than we know what to do with. The new set roll out and Nationals is certainly our busiest time of year here on Land of Redemption.
I’d like to close the same way I began – thanking our editor Scott for keeping things going for us. If you appreciate Land of Redemption, be sure to drop him a note of encouragement. You’d be surprised how big a difference something like that can make!
