Throwback Thursday is a common theme on sites and blogs where you hearken back to something interesting or random from the past. On Land of Redemption, our current Throwback Thursday trend is re-posts of preview articles from years and sets past.
This week continues the Priests preview articles. Enjoy!

The nation of Israel had been conceived in Jacob, carried in the womb in Egypt, and had been birthed through the Red Sea into the wilderness of Sinai. Now, as the nation was learning to walk, the Father had to teach His people how to behave. He gave them clear commands, and then promised them blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience.
In Deuteronomy 28, God told his people that if they disobeyed His commands, they would be struck with madness and blindness, plagued with diseases, they would flee from their enemies, they would be unsuccessful, oppressed, and robbed. An unknown nation would rise up against them and they would be besieged and go into captivity.
These curses and others become Curse cards in the Priests expansion set. Each of the seven evil brigades gets two Curses – each with big defense numbers for emergency use against a by-the-numbers hero. Here is a sample Curse card:
Rain Becomes Dust
1/5 Gray Curse
All cards that an opponent draws because of a special ability used by that opponent are revealed instead. Place all revealed Lost Souls in opponent’s territory. Discard the rest.
“The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.” Deut. 28:24

Chances are you have played against players who like to draw a lot of cards. Their deck is a figurative fountain of cards streaming straight into their hand. This card turns off the fountain and turns on the dump truck. A player who relies on card drawing will simply discard the card-drawing cards rather than lose all the cards he would have drawn. Do you see that your opponent has set a hero aside with Provisions and the hero will return to territory next turn? Activate this and your opponent won’t be drawing the two cards. There are other strategies that can be employed with this card – particularly if your opponent uses certain existing and upcoming cards, but we’ll let you discover those for yourself.
Not only does this card help gray keep its opponent’s hand small, but it does this without a major cost: it won’t discard your opponent’s lost souls, and it doesn’t hurt your own card drawing abilities. Seems like a great way to punish your opponents for being greedy.
Curses are going to play an important role in Redemption. Type 1 decks will use them to boost their defensive strategies, and Type 2 decks will finally have a complement to the Covenants, making deck building a little easier. Curses also remind us players of the importance of being obedient to our Father in heaven. While we might not experience the same kids of curses the Israelites faced, God still disciplines those he loves. Read Hebrews 12:7-11.
