Last Friday Mr. Rob Anderson added an announcement to his GoC phase 1 update. He needs to produce new packaging for the I/J starter decks which provided an opportunity to include 6 new cards labeled IJ+!
Throughout the day on Friday the Redemption leadership team then gave “clues” and played a “guessing game” with the Redemption community on Discord. When a card was guessed correctly the new IJ+ image was shared! These should be available some time in February!
Derek from Your Turn Games shared with us that the newly packaged I/J starters with the 6 IJ+ cards will have a suggested retail price of $17.50. As usual I expect single copies of these cards will also be available from your favorite Redemption retailer.
Lets take a look at the 6 new cards that can be found in IJ+!
Having the New Jerusalem Dominant available along side starter decks will help players get up to speed with existing players who are probably already running this or The Second Coming. This reminds me of when the classic NJ promo was included in the G/H gift tins. Thank you Cactus Games for making deck staples easily available to new players!
This is a really fun card that feels like it is begging to be used in some kind of combo. At the very least it will provide some nice draw power to either the I or J deck if it replaces the existing special ability Lost Soul. Plus, with a defense in LoC that uses meek Lost Souls, as well as rumors of one in GoC, this might have a lot more application in constructed decks.
Romans haven’t gotten a lot of love recently… until now! This is going to be amazing in any Roman defense! And don’t forget that Herods, rumored to be in GoC phase 2, are Romans as well! This card combined with powerhouse characters like Emperor Nero (Regional promo), Emperor Domitian (RoJ), Emperor Claudius (TPC) and the new State promo for 2022 will make Romans a strong defense!
Here’s another classic card being brought onto the new card face to join the rotation format. This version seems more playable than its predecessor as well! It doesn’t only help Judges offenses, but Ruth offenses as well! Judges have always been good at territory destruction, but this feels like it takes that to a whole new level with the ability to discard any evil card in a territory!
This is quite different from the New Covenant we go all the way back in the Disciples set. But with several of the Disciples confirmed to be in GoC phase 1, plus 4 in the I/J starter deck, this is a nice addition to that offense. We’re bound to see quite a few good Gospel Enhancements in GoC. I’ll be surprised if the Artifact side of this doesn’t see play outside of a disciples offense.
Last, but certainly not least, we have one of my old favorites being reprinted. Philistines were already a formidable defense thanks to all the support they’ve received in PoC and LoC. This might just put them over the top! Similar to the old Outpost, I like that this allows you to pull an Evil Character out of your deck to help ensure that you have a blocker.
Those are the 6 new gems we’re getting in IJ+. I can’t wait to get my hands on them. In fact, I put in my order for 2 copies of the newly packaged I/J decks today!
