A consistent challenge for many decks including royalty Evil Characters has been blocking King David. I’ve seen many players single handedly lose games due to King David keeping the Evil Characters sitting helplessly in territories due to King David’s ignore ability. What can royalty defenses due to counters this threat?
One way to counter King David is through negating his special ability. This can be accomplished through Curses (Covenant with Death, Confusion of Mind), the “anti-ignore” Lost Soul (if you are only playing one defensive brigade),Fortress (Tower of Thebez), or territory class Enhancement (King’s Pomp, Destructive Sin, etc.). A great example is a Gates of Jerusalem defense including Covenant with Death. The special abilities of kings and queens of Judah cannot be negated by Covenant with Death when Gates of Jerusalem is in play.
A second way to counter King David is through Evil Character selection. Playing a defense that consists entirely of royalty characters is almost never a good idea with the popularity of King David. For example, including strong splash characters such a Gomer or Uzzah in a king of Judah or Israel defense might give you opportunities to block King David you wouldn’t have had without those non royalty characters.
A third way to counter King David is to utilize abilities that make it so your characters cannot be ignored. Golgotha accomplishes this for N.T. Evil Characters and allowing your N.T. royalty characters to block King David. This is a great option to give Herods the opportunity to attempt to block King David. Hating The Light is another option, though I cannot recommend the card. It’s pretty mediocre option only granting the status to one Evil Character, and is a liability in many situations with it being multi-color.
A fourth way to counter King David is to utilize cards that allow you to block him without having an Evil Character enter battle. You can accomplish this with Site-lock, Artifacts selection (Unholy Writ, Magic Charms), Dominants (Christian Martyr) or territory class Enhancements (Paul’s Belt).
Hopefully you’ve gotten some new ideas to allow your royalty defenses to get some needed blocks against King David.

Quick correction: Paul’s Belt cannot capture an opponent’s character unless it is in battle. You could use Invoking Terror or a few other cards to get rid of him (if temporarily), but Paul’s Belt would not work.
