Introduction:
Last year I started a drawing fundraiser to get two teenagers from my local play group here in North Bend, Oregon to the 2023 Redemption National Tournament. These two teenagers would be the top finishing individuals from our tournament season having achieved the most RNRS points throughout the season. Living on pretty much he farthest end of the west coast about 15 minutes from the Pacific Ocean it is quite expensive to get from here to the east where Nationals is typically held limiting opportunities for teenage members of my play group to go. With this in mind I started the fundraiser and I offered up in the drawing some remaining special National promo cards I had. Well the fundraiser went great and we had plenty of funds to get them to Nationals but I had made a mistake and had booked the tickets before I knew who had earned the spots by guessing which two teenagers I thought would qualify. One of them ended up not being able to go and then I realized you cannot change the names on plane tickets!
So we had a second drawing fundraiser with a collection of cards I inherited from a former play group member and we ended up bringing three total teenage playgroup members from Oregon to Redemption Nationals. Some of my mistakes in the process led to me paying a decent amount out of pocket myself to get them there but it was all worth it at the end! They had a phenomenal experience at 2023 Nationals and I am sure some of you may have played against them or met these three young men (Daniel, Timothy, and Allen). We want to make this experience possible for at least one teenage playgroup member this year as well at 2024 Redemption Nationals.
The Drawing Fundraiser:
The Beneficiary-
Having learned from last year I am going to structure this drawing fundraiser a bit different (and not buy plane tickets till we have determined who has earned the spot(s) to Nationals). Also I am going to aim to just get one teenager to Nationals from Oregon through this fundraiser. This will be the teenager with the most RNRS points at the end of our spring tournament season here in May. However, if this fundraiser leads to enough funds to get more than one teenager to Redemption Nationals we will certainly make that happen!
The Drawing Prize Lot-
A very generous person gifted me a complete set of the 2023 Redemption Nationals Special Promos. These are the 1-3 place winner promos and the worker promo (Son of God (textless) 1st place [$199 value], Harvest LS 2nd place [$100 value], Reap the Whirwlind 3rd place [$85 value], and War in Heaven the worker promo [$125 value]). The total value of all of these together based on Your Turn Games pricing is $509. The 2023 National participant promo (Angel of God) which is much more common is not part of this lot. I decided the moment I received this gift to use it for the drawing fundraiser to get a teenage member of my playgroup to 2024 Redemption Nationals. For every $20 you donate toward this fundraiser you will get a ticket in the drawing. Here is a photo of the drawing prize:
How to Donate-
Last year we ran the drawing fundraiser through GoFundMe. The issue with this I realized is GoFundMe takes a portion of the funds themselves. This year what I am going to try instead is having people donate via PayPal. To do this please send your funds via the “Friends & Family” payment option to cchessbball[at]comcast[dot]net. It is critical to send the funds via the “Friends & Family” option so I do not get charged a fee. When you make a donation please note if you want your donation to be “public” or “private”. If it is “public” I will list it on this article as a thank you to you for donating. Otherwise your donation will be listed as “anonymous”.
The nice thing about GoFundMe is it had a progress tracker. I will update the fundraiser progress at the top of this article as new funds are donated.
