The intention of this article is to give an overview of Redemption’s Brigades (colors) and Themes, for good and evil cards.
There are 9 Good (used for offense) Brigades in Redemption, with 27 Good Themes or Sub-Themes dispersed among them:
- Blue (2) – Genesis Heroes, Job Heroes

There are also 7 Evil (used for defense) Brigades: black, brown, crimson, gold, gray, orange, and pale green. Within these 7 Evil Brigades, there are 19 Evil Themes or Sub-Themes:

As you can see, there are many more options among Good cards in Redemption, although there is no shortage of options on the Evil side for defense. All in all, there is SO much variety possible in Redemption for deck-building! If you chose just one main Good Theme/Sub-Theme and one main Evil Theme/Sub-Theme for your deck, you would have 513 different options (27 x 19)! Further incorporating multiple offensive and defensive Themes in combination expands this number exponentially. This is part of the reason why Redemption is so much fun: there are a plethora of deck possibilities, and along with those many possibilities are all the strategy associated with each theme, combination, and card.
Not all themes combine well with each other, though. Certain offensive themes work well together in tandem, and others do not. Certain offenses support and complement nicely with certain defenses, and other combos have the opposite effect. In future articles, we hope to give more detail on specific themes and theme combinations. For now, though, consider the following when strategically choosing offenses and defenses:
– What does the offense need to be victorious, and what other offense and/or defense can provide that for it?
– What are the weaknesses of the offense/defense, and what other offenses/defenses have those weaknesses as their strengths?
Remember, though, Redemption is not primarily a scientific endeavor – it is a game! I love to use my favorite Bible characters, like David, in deck-building, and take the challenge of making the best deck possible using those characters. Have fun and glorify God by doing your best and being a great sport, win or lose!
