Israel’s Inheritance is here! The community got some amazing news from the creator of the game who shared a fun spoiler game in our discord for the community to find the name of the set! I do want to recognize the outstanding craftsmanship Doug Gray did for the packaging.
Israel’s Inheritance is the final set in the Israel block which started with Israel’s Deliverance, which are starter decks, and covered Exodus and I Samuel. Israel’s Rebellion released last year which covered the story from the Exodus through the 40 years in the desert. Israel’s Inheritance covers how Joshua conquered the land of Canaan and shows who helped defeat enemies after the Promised Land was secured.
It only makes sense to spoil the new, all gold, Rahab, the Promised! Joshua sent two men as spies to go view the land, specifically Jericho in Joshua chapter 2. Rahab’s profession was well known and not the holiest career choice, but nevertheless, God saw her as a child of God and shows that He can use anyone, regardless of their current lifestyle, for His greater good. Rahab let Joshua’s spies stay in her home and hid them from the king of Jericho. The spies then told Rahab to tie a scarlet cord in her window so when Joshua and the Israelites conquered Jericho, Joshua’s men would know not to harm anyone in her home. We designed Rahab to be the setup piece for the Joshua theme because of her story. All of us will have to wait to see what Scarlet Line’s special ability is, but even if it is something as perfect as a draw 2, Rahab can always get Scarlet Line and play it!
The next good theme in Israel’s Inheritance are Old Testament prophets, specifically around the same timeframe or books of the Bible as the conquest of Canaan, or prophets that dealt with characters from the books of Joshua through II Samuel. I wanted to showcase The Man of God in this article because his scripture is from I Kings. The Man of God is a very strong Hero for the green brigade. The Man of God went to King Jeroboam in I Kings and told Jeroboam that a son would be born to the house of David. Jeroboam stretched out his hand and yelled, “Seize him!”, but Jeroboam’s hand dried up. The Man of God gives the opponent an opportunity to get rid of evil which symbolizes the altar in the scripture and the choice this prophet gave Jeroboam.
Once Joshua had conquered enemies in Canaan and years had passed, David was made king of Judah until all the tribes of Israel came to David and anointed him king over Israel in II Samuel chapter 5. David and his men continued to fight opposition throughout the book of II Samuel. Although Joshua had conquered Canaan, David and his men had to strengthen the land and keep it safe. It only makes sense to round out the offensive themes with David’s mighty men!
I won’t speak on the art in this article, but the design team took a different approach for the David’s mighty men. Eleazar is one of the three mighty men. He has a strong ability, being able to negate Enhancements, except for good weapons and he can band or take a card that I am not familiar with… A warrior class Hero who can make the battle pseudo-by the numbers, while still getting the abilities of good weapons and be able to band is very strong! I wonder what Adino will do and who the other mighty men listed of the three are, and what he might do. That doesn’t even consider the other card named in Eleazar’s ability!
Maybe there’s another brigade or two in Israel’s Inheritance that gets a little love, but here’s one final spoiler in the article. I chose this card specifically to show our reinforcement of priests to clay and giving them some more support. The Bearers of the Ark can work in a Tabernacle offense, Joshua offense, clay priests, or any wilderness offense. This card is very versatile and will increase deck variety in numerous ways. Who knows, there could be more wilderness Heroes, or even an entirely new wilderness theme in this set. This card is just a tease of how themes come together in the final set of the Israel block. The Bearers of the Ark can activate a Joshua Artifact from deck. Maybe we added some new Joshua Artifacts or redid old Joshua Artifacts from previous sets. This card should also get people excited that Joshua should be able to be their own theme in an offense. In the past the Joshua theme was a splash or support, not an entire offense. This card has a lot of exciting pieces in it and ties together themes, adds to them, or allows themes to have access to strong characters without needing to splash cards that are outside their respective theme. Joshua, Tabernacle, and wilderness all get access to this card, which is awesome in my mind.
I speak for the design and playtest team when I say, I really think you will enjoy this set. It’s exciting, it’s strong and its downright fun to play!
We added new themes, redid old themes, added to current themes to help them out and redid or brought back some iconic cards! I want to say a huge thank you to the design team for the incredible number of hours put in to make this set a reality.
John did graphics on this set, and he did an amazing job! Gabe was there the entire time helping John and sharing his expertise and experience. Marcus’ ability to ensure all cards were worded correctly and both Gabe and Marcus make sure wording is streamlined and consistent is a huge blessing to the design team, but even more so to the community and players.
Chris was an excellent playtester and provided prompt updates to the Lackey files used to playtest as well as graphic updates for playtesters. Roy was able to test with his group and went through each card to ensure scripture accuracy. Joe constantly went though the set, challenged cards that were too strong and would provide insight on themes overall.
It truly was an awesome team project and that is why the set is going to be loved by the community. I cannot wait for this set to get into the player’s hand! I hope you enjoyed reading this article and it got you excited for Israel’s Inheritance!
