Put on your Armor! – Part 1

This week on Land of Redemption we’re focusing on the Armor of God.

Ephesians 6:14-17 lays out what the armor of god are – “Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

We’ve seen these cards a couple of times before in Redemption – Traditionally Breastplate, Helmet, and Sword are all used in Fight by the Numbers style decks.

When we started working on this set we knew that we wanted to reprint the armor, since they fit so well with the Persecuted Church’s development – Belt of Truth is the first Armor mentioned in the bible, and so it’s the first armor we’ll discuss here:

You might wonder how we decided on the color scheme for this Enhancement – The initial list had this card like this:

Belt_V1

We wanted the card to reflect the idea of truthfulness very strongly – Heretics are evil prophets seek to bend the truth, and pull people away from God with deception and lies. The Belt of Truth makes your Hero immune to these groups of liars. The idea of armor giving a form of protection is also present here.

We quickly determined that some of the other armor (more on those later) would be pretty good if they remained clay only. We briefly flirted with the idea of returning them to multi-color status, however we thought it was weird to have them still only be placed on a clay Hero. We determined that it made sense to make them clay/red and open up the N.T. red warrior theme, as they would use the literal representation of the armor, while clay church Heroes would use the spiritual. This is also when the X ability was added on – We wanted the armor to work together. We also changed the protection to the brigades that represent heretics and false prophets to give them a little more power than just being immune to the groups.

Around this time on the set list we were getting pretty settled, the armor didn’t change for quite a while, until a few weeks before the end of the process – We decided that double-stacking some of the armor in T2 was problematic. We added on a third color to all of the armor, effectively limiting them in T2. Our determination for giving Belt of Truth green was that the prophets (green brigade in Redemption) spoke the truth of God. Thus we added green brigade, and arrived at the final version of Belt

See if you can guess the brigades we added to each of the other armor cards. Message your guess to RedDragonThorn on the Redemption boards. Every accurate guess will be placed in a drawing for 10 packs of The Persecuted Church when the set is officially released! Entries will only be accepted until midnight on July 6th, 2015. One guess for each piece of Armor per person.
