Underused Cards: Good Alignment

Join Seth Morlan on a new series discussing cards that deserve more playing time…”Put me in, Coach!

Hello Redemption Community! As you may have seen on Discord, I was asked to write up my opinion on the least used cards in Redemption that I think are still useful in their own way. I will do a write up on 5 cards of each card type to get a good overview. Today I will be talking about good alignment cards! This will involve both heroes and good enhancements. These cards are what win you battles I would say about 70% of the time.

The very first card in good alignment I’d say that is under-used is Justin Martyr. Now everyone knows he is a rock-solid hero, but I hardly ever see him in use. There are a few things about this card that I love:

1. He grabs his own battle-winner. Word of Their testimony is an amazing card in itself, and I pondered doing a write up on that card, but I decided against it due to the fact I knew I wanted to talk about Justin Martyr.
2. He works amazing in decks that utilize Lost souls such as “Accusers” and “Salty.” One of the many uses to Justin martyr is that he is a NT hero and can take advantage of the “Accusers” ability to negate OT humans in battle. As a result, he can be great in a lockdown deck using these souls.
3. He has his personal speed engine with Angel From the Sun. Angel From the Sun exchanges for a martyr from territory, deck, or reserve and draws 2 if it’s a Revelation martyr. Justin is indeed a Revelation martyr. Most people in the meta are exchanging to Matthew (which is also a good play), but one other thing is that Justin Martyr is good for is grabbing Blood of the lamb which can negate an evil card, draw 3 if used by a martyr, then PLAY the next enhancement. Factoring in the draw 2 from Angel From the Sun plus another draw 3, that’s a +5 all by this guy Justin (for the most part). “Negate an evil card” is so versatile being you can negate an evil character that is, for example, protecting souls or just got a huge draw (i.e., false prophet).

The recur on Justin Martyr is also incredible, being able to grab a battle-winner every turn is bonkers. You can also recur an extra D3 and play next every turn which in itself is kind of broken to me. Play abilities are super strong and hard to get around.

Good ol’ Father Abe. He has been a good card since CoW came out. He has always had a solid ability, but I believe that this one takes the cake. He first and foremost can activate his own star ability, which is to grab any meek red hero…which is about any hero in LoC. On top of that, he can draw 3, which with his star ability isn’t hard to accomplish his X qualifier. When he converts to meek it is near impossible to get initiative on this guy. He will almost always be able to play first. Blue has never been known to have amazing battle-winners, but even if you don’t want to have initiative, Father Abe has an array of patriarchs that will support him with many numbers. Patriarchs have cards like Goshen that will always back them up due to their lack of battle-winners. They have big boy numbers and little gimmicks that can inadvertently win them the battle. All in all, I think that if you’re wanting to run blue but still get the meta speed you want, Papa Abe is the man for your needs.

Most people that have joined in the past 2 years don’t even know that this card exists, and to me that’s sad XD. Created by Christ is a +3 that can set you up for success. It grabs a hero, an evil character, and a lost soul. If you need the “Distressed” lost soul, there is a possibility that this card can get it. If you have no heroes, you’re guaranteed at least a hero. Now I understand this card can get really random, and I think that because this card can work with evil as well. This card can create synergy with your defense which to me is everything. And all of this can be done by one card played in territory. This card can grab counters such as Jonah, Obed, Mary of Bethany, PoZ (Priest of Zeus), Zaccheus, “Distressed”, “Punisher”, and so on and so forth and what have you. It can be a set up for another meek hero for IJ (Impartial Judgement) as well. It can see a slot in a speed meta deck that doesn’t have a single evil character in play and needs just one evil character.

This is another card that is popular, but never sees actual play except for a few players. However, I think that side battles are underrated and good. There is a lot that you can do in a side battle such as DoU (Death of Unrighteous) and Revolt to win battles. Another card is Epaphroditus: as long as your character is big enough, your opponent can’t do a thing against you in a side battle with Epaphroditus. Then even after that, you are able to withdraw ALL evil characters. With Moses, this is an absolutely bonkers ability. Another thing I think is good in general are cloud cards. Moses be able to negate everything BUT cloud cards is crazy good. And in my opinion, cloud decks could still be good.

I have actually saved the best of the good alignment for last. For years, I have raved about this card (not so much in recent years), but here it is…the underused champion of good alignment.

EVERY TRIBE. Now believe me when I say this guy can do SO MUCH. He can get you a grand selection of cards to pick one from. He can band to a hero from your opponent, paired with Melchizedek, who is a king AND a priest. This card can single-handedly take your opponent down with their own offense or get initiative to play Eye On It against someone. His colors are so easily splash-able, and again he gets initiative every time! This card can get crazy awesome in multi-player; being able to band from each opponent. I have just been in love with this card since it came out.

It’s been a pleasure, thank you from coming to my TED talk on cards that I think should see way more play than they do. In the next article, I will be covering evil alignment cards that I think should see more play. So go out and deck build! I would love to see what y’all come up with. Send me a DM on Discord at @bingaling4243 with decks you’ve made and cards you think should see play! I am always open to listening to opinions and strategies.
