Check out the results of the second day at the Redemption National Tournament 2022 including results from Redemption’s most popular constructed category T1-2P!

Day 2 of Redemption Nationals 2022 is complete and one of the most popular categories in all of Redemption Type 1-2 player has a new champion. Also Type A was played at Nationals 2022 today as well. Here are the top three finishers in each category.

T1-2P:

1. Jayden Alstad
2. Joshua Potratz
3. Jeremy Chambers

Type A:

1. Willow Isbell
2. Annalise Murphy
3. Asher Isbell

T1-2P: This years T1-2P National Championship carried several intriguing story lines: would Joshua Potratz be able to repeat his success in 2021 and win back to back? Would Jeremy Chambers be able to win BOTH T2-2P and T1-2P at Nationals 2022? Would one of the legendary Alstad brothers Justin/Jayden be able to win a first T1-2P National title (both have won T2-2P before but not T1-2P), would Luke Marshall be able to join his brother Nic as a T1-2P champion (Nic won in 2020), or would a newcomer surprise us all and win T1-2P at Nats?

Well the top three finishers are no surprise at all: Jayden Alstad, Joshua Potratz, and Jeremy Chambers being the top three finishers in T1-2P is not a surprise. However, I personally am amazed that Jayden pulled off the victory mainly because of what he was running. A Widow Combo variant deck won T2-2P in the skilled piloting hands of Jeremy Chambers yesterday and I think many of us expected a Widow Combo variant deck to win T1-2P today as well. Going into today I thought Luke Marshall and Jeremy Chambers had the best chance to win T1-2P at Nats 2022. Both had done very well in tournament play and I knew they both had tuned Widow Combo variant decks. Jeremy in particular crafted a genius deck around the Widow Combo which is called “Circus”. I will let him share the exact build with you all but it is genius. I was unsure if Joshua Potratz was going to be running a Widow Combo variant deck since I just recently played him in the current Lackey Grand Prix in and he did not run one against me there. Well when I saw on live stream he was running a Widow Combo variant deck similar to the one I knew Luke Marshall had run this tournament season with a couple nice adjustments I figured he too had a great shot to win the category. So once the live stream was going I thought Josh Potratz, Jeremy Chambers, or Luke Marshall would win T1-2P at Nationals 2022.

And then Jayden Alstad stole the show. I personally made a post on the Redemption Discord earlier this year that in my mind Jayden Alstad is the best active Redemption player. There are three main reasons behind this feeling: 1) He had the best overall results of any player at Nats 2021 2) Another thing I have noticed in playing against Jayden is his actual level of in game play is extremely high. Jayden makes minimal misplays and finds clever intuitive plays in games that many players would miss. 3) Jayden this tournament season discovered two combos that shook the game and led to the rules of the game being changed in a significant way in “The First” combo and “The Widow” combo. Jayden’s deck building acumen and keen eye for card interactions is second to none currently in my mind. The fact that he discovered both of these combos is flat out brilliant. Due to these combos the rules of the game changed to limiting the ability activation of a card to four times per turn. One thing I respect about Jayden immensely is that he shared these combos with the community for the health of the game when he could have kept them secret for himself and likely steamrolled Nationals with them (namely the Widow Combo). Jayden took the high road though and in turn the game is now healthier.

Well all that to say even after the rule change the Widow Combo still allows for a potential 12 card draw per turn and we saw yesterday with Jeremy C’s Type 2 victory how effective this can be in a well constructed deck. I knew Jayden was unlikely to play the Widow Combo at Nats though since he had communicated as much to me in an in person meetup he, Justin A, and John E and I had in Minnesota a little over two weeks ago. Personally I thought Jayden would have a solid showing but did not think he would be able to overcome Luke M’s Widow Disciple deck or Jeremy Chamber’s Circus deck. Well Jayden proved me wrong and achieved victory with his trusty Postexilic deck build. I am amazed by Jayden’s victory with his deck and am so happy he won considering all he did for the community this tournament season by revealing his findings. What a worthy champion! I would also like to point out that Jayden Alstad has now won both T1-2P and T2-2P at Nationals and he joins an elite company of players who have accomplished this difficult feat. Congrats Jayden from the community and we eagerly await a write up about your deck and experience!

Kudos to Joshua Potratz for almost being a back to back T1-2P champion. Josh is an amazingly skilled player and truly demonstrated that he is one of the most skilled active Redemption players with his 1st place finish in 2021 in T1-2P, 2nd place finish in T1-2P this year, and his first place finish in Booster Draft this year. Congrats Josh!

Lastly kudos to Jeremy Chambers for placing 3rd in T1-2P. Placing 1st in T2-2P and 3rd in T1-2P in the same tournament is truly remarkable. Congrats Jeremy!

I think it is interesting to note the champion deck and the third place deck were original decks and the only ones of their exact type piloted. Jayden is the only person who ran Postexilics and Jeremy Chambers is the only person who ran Circus (which is a Widow variant deck but not disciples based). Clearly Widow variant decks were the top deck build ran by a long shot.

Also here are the final RNRS top three finishers for T1-2P for this season: Jeremy Chambers/Luke Marshall tied for first and Jared Strauss took 3rd.

Type A:

T1-2P is not the only category that was played on Day 2 of Nats 2022 but rather Type A was played as well.

All I have to say is we all better watch out. Gabe Isbell is one of the top Redemption players of all time and it is very clear his kids are prepping to be formidable Redemption players! Congrats to Willow Isbell on her first place finish in Type A!
