The Saga of Redemption: Finale

Join Luke Marshall for an exciting conclusion to The Saga of Redemption series and be sure to tune into Redemption with Jayden for the LIVE game action accompanying this article.

I hope that you enjoyed the recap I have done of The Saga of Redemption up to the split between the Classic format and the Rotation format. I have enjoyed this game for so many years and I am hoping that these articles have encouraged you to go back and play some of the past metas which were so much fun. It seems the most practical way to do this is to challenge John Earley this year at Nationals to some side games with his National winning decks from the previous decade. If nothing else I hope this encourages you to try the Classic format which has so many fun and unique cards that will probably never be reprinted.

What If?

With most of my articles being reflective on the past I thought as a finale to The Saga of Redemption series, it might be fun to have a game of “what if’s?” What if the Elder team didn’t exist, didn’t fix rules, ban cards, and provide updates to the rules of our favorite game? The Elder team that has led the game for so long often does not get enough credit for all the work they put into the game. So I thought It would be fun to play a version of the Classic format that has no fixes and none of the major recent rule updates. Welcome to no-ban, no-errata Redemption. I challenged Jayden to this very special format where we will play the most absolutely broken and busted decks ever to be played in Redemption. We will have two match ups for you live this Thursday evening to be streamed for all to enjoy at 7pm CST. The two matches will be Creation-LAFS vs Widow combo and Throne vs Coney. We will be playing the game with old rules and no errata on the cards. Hopefully these games will give you a new found appreciation for our leadership team and their tireless work to bring us a great game and great split formats of Classic and Rotation with which to enjoy the game!

The Matches-
No ban list Redemption is played as follows: all cards are taken off the ban list, all errata’s are
removed from all cards, we remove all ‘unprinted’ rules (first turn reserve access, Lost Souls
determine who goes first, remove limits on playing cards and side battles, etc), we have the original ignore rule to force characters out of battle, Dominant initiative is removed, no Dominant cap in deck building, and you can choose your own Evil Characters for choose the blocker abilities. As was mentioned earlier the two different matches we have for you on Thursday are Creation-LAFS vs Widow Combo and Throne vs Coney. These matches will be extremely interesting. Let’s just briefly walk
through some of the possibilities. First LAFS vs Widow. Widow might be the most broken deck
of all time as you get infinite draw and a possible first turn win with Dominants being restricted
so that nothing can interact with the combo, you also get Simon to choose your own EC to
block almost guaranteeing a successful rescue for the game winning rescue. However LAFS is a
very constant hand wipe deck that can manipulate going first. I think this match will be heavily weighted by who can get the initial advantage but it is not necessarily determined by who takes the first turn. It is important to remember that A New Beginning can completely reset the game and without an errata it is profoundly broken…

The second match may look out of place with Coney being another broken combo deck which will only have increased consistency with all the new options available but do not underestimate the consistency of the Samuel Throne of David deck. It is not technically a combo deck but it has a massive banding chain to draw 6 to 10 cards with most of the band being CBN. Not too shabby especially
when you realize many of the band combos can be used with Covenant with Death active which is
perhaps one of the most oppressive counter cards in the game. Just a thought did you know if
you play the Classic format you could play The Cross of Death? And you thought the Golden Cross was
good. I would also like to point out that that all four of these deck will have Crowds Choice to go to
a first turn non-errata’d Mayhem which for all you newer players is up there on the list of the most broken cards ever printed.

Conclusion-
Can Widow really go off without a hand? Will Widow get another first turn win? Will Coney
show you why it was immediately errata’d? Will Throne continue to rule with an iron fist? Make
sure you are there tomorrow to find out! Hopefully these games will encourage all the combo community to come together and make a request to Mr. Jay Chambers @floodedRED on the Discord about a No Ban List Grand Prix! This is my own personal hope because I like playing busted metas. We could have an amazing tournament on our hands and just think how short the games could be! Possibly the fastest tournament in Redemption history! Hope to see you Thursday night live on Redemption with Jayden for our two exciting matches and I hope your have enjoyed The Saga of Redemption!
