Classic Staples: Fortresses, Sites, Cities, Multi Brigade Characters/Enhancements

In this series Redemption national champion Zac Cornell provides a briefing on cards that are staples in the classic format of Redemption. This third article in the series is on Fortresses, Sites, Cities, and Multi Brigade Characters/Enhancements.

Introduction:

These articles are meant for beginner players looking for a good place to start deck building or intermediate players looking to broaden their Redemption knowledge. Many of the cards in here will never see high-end play, and that’s on purpose. This article is a jumping off point to give less experienced players a manageable list of cards that can work in most any deck so they can have a place to start in their own research and experimentation.

There are tons of theme-specific cards not mentioned in this series. They weren’t forgotten, but are mentioned in their selected themes in the Brigade Basics articles that I wrote and are published here on Land of Redemption. Cards that have usefulness outside of their theme will be mentioned here however.

This series is based on the Classic format of Type 1 and Type 2. Once the new set Gospel of Christ is released this series will be edited to include Gospel of Christ cards and will be based on the new Rotation format.

If I missed something, please let me know in the comments below! This article will be updated with each new set, so your comments could very well make it into the next update.

Fortresses, Sites, and Cities

The following Fortresses, Sites, and Cities can find a home in most any deck. In making this, I was surprised how few of these cards aren’t tied to a theme, who knew? Although site decks are mostly a thing of the past (there is a viable build of a Samaria deck out there, I know it!), it’s still good to factor in at least 1 form of site access into your deck, which usually comes in the form of a multi-brigade site. Most of the good fortresses on here are usually used with other themes, but they have broad protect abilities that also give them utility in other decks. This may be a shorter list, but it includes some of the most used cards in the game, so keep an eye out for these cards!

Fortresses-

Storehouse
House of Prayer
Wall of Protection
Noah’s Ark (Ark of Salvation)
Twelve Gates
The Throne of Grace
Herod’s Temple (NT humans only)
Sheol
Coliseum
Raider’s Camp (Capture defenses only)

Cities-

Bethlehem (Both versions)
Damascus
City of Refuge (OT human decks only)
Babel

Multi Brigade Sites-

The Ends of the Earth
Dragon Raid
New Jerusalem/Bride of Christ

Other Sites-

Egypt (Make sure you have enough of the right fortresses/curses to use it)
Majestic Heavens
Treacherous Land
Nazareth
Babylonian Banquet Hall (with Babylon sites)
Hormah

Multi-Brigade Enhancements and Characters

The following cards can find a home in most any deck. Keep in mind that if you leave a multi-brigade card in play, it makes you have every good/evil brigade in play, which can come back to bite you if your opponent is using a card that has X=opponent’s brigades on it, like The Throne of David, so be careful. Also, Mourn and Weep, a card that would be on this list, has been banned from tournament play. That being said, the versatility these cards offer is unparalleled, so have fun!

Good Multi-Brigade Enhancements-

Whirlwind/Everlasting Ground
Faith (Make sure you have enough Cloud cards for it)
Fountain of Living Water (Make sure you have enough Star cards for it)
Not Alone (Human heroes only)
Reverence and Awe
Sword of the Spirit
Love
Root of Jesse
Coat of Many Colors
Christ’s Triumph (NT human heroes only)
Lay Down Your Life (NT human heroes only)
The Sabbath

Good Multi-Brigade Characters-

Noah (Rest and Comfort)
Paul (Ap)

Evil Multi-Brigade Characters and Enhancements-

Kings of the Earth
Pagan Sailors
Silly Women
Foreign Wives
Foolish Shepherd
Foreign Spearman
Heart of Depravity
Every Man’s Sword
Lurking
Love of Money
Fall of Man

Both Good and Evil Multi-Brigade Enhancements-

Unified Language (OT humans only)

Conclusion:

Fortresses, Sites, Cities, Enhancements, and Characters are notorious for being theme specific. However, as is shown above there are some that are functional in many deck types. Hopefully this leads to some creative deck building ideas!
