This week’s Redemption with Jayden video features a deck that triples up on Legion of Angels and swings in with them while they’re protected from harm by Mary, Faithful Servant.

To make the offense even stronger, I included both Love and Joy to first convert Mary to white and then make her protection “Cannot be negated”. The offense is chock full of tutors to make sure you get things set up right away so you can start swingin’ in with the voltron Angels right away and you can also attack with Jotham, the Mighty, convert him to meek, and band to a Legion to make sure that even Leviathan can’t beat those numbers. Cards like Noah’s Ark and Josiah’s Covenant protect Mary in territory to make sure she avoids any collateral damage and then cards like Coliseum, Windows of Narrow Light, and the “Orphans” Lost Soul all help to limit your opponent’s blocking options even further.

On the defense, I chose to use Syrians since Gold Shield produces an alternative to Love for converting Mary to white brigade. The main goal is to set up strong blocks with King Rezin to make band and capture abilities “Cannot be negated” and play first with The Strong Force or by equipping a weapon from Reserve with Captain of the Chariots. In this build, I also decided to use four gray curses that can either be battlewinners or powerful artifacts. Having a good number of targets for Endless Treasures is always nice in a deck that utilizes evil weapons. I also decided to include Shobach in this build because he gives access to Foreign Horses in addition to Naaman’s Chariots and Horses.

Overall, this deck list is very optimized and similar goals could probably be achieved using fewer, more versatile cards, but I wanted to try out the new Mary with the biggest Hero in the game and it was definitely fun to play. One of the cool interactions in this deck is to use Joseph, the Righteous to exchange with a Legion of Angels in deck or Reserve to make them a 22/22. By getting out Bethlehem using Covenant with Abraham, you can use Bethlehem’s ability to put the angels back in Reserve, use Covenant with Abraham to take Joseph back out, and do it all again. With three copies of Legion of Angels, you should be able to have one to attack with and at least one to Reserve. Another way to use Bethlehem is to play it as a Site so that you can play Mary through an opponent’s Distressed LS or Moses (CoW) when Joy isn’t making her “Cannot be negated”. Jayden started playing Redemption around 2004 when his brothers taught him to play and he attended his first National Tournament in 2005. Since then, he has become a competitive (mostly Type 2) player with a few National titles and, more importantly, has acquired many great friends and mentors through the game. However, in the years leading up to 2020, there has been a downward trend in attendance at some of the big tournaments, Nationals included. As a result, Jayden wanted to start doing something that would help pique and maintain interest in Redemption and he decided to do so in the form of a YouTube channel called Redemption with Jayden, which he started in June 2020 shortly after graduating college. He loves being able to share decks, games, and strategies, and hopes that the channel can be a useful resource for players at every level of the game.
