Game Update – REG Version (3.1.0)

The Elders have completed a minor version update to the REG that is effective immediately. The primary changes were updating and adding information for Cloud of Witnesses cards but there are some other interesting changes as well.

Many glossary entries received either changes or additions to reflect new cards (and some missing cards). The full list is in the Change Log below.

The Elders recently announced some rule changes that are now officially reflected in the REG. An important change that everyone should be aware of is the following update to Discard:

  • Discard > Default Conditions > When a Lost Soul is discarded from a deck it is put into its owner’s Land of Bondage.

When I inquired with Gabe about this change, he provided the following information:

It saves us from having to print “(put Lost Soul cards in play instead)” every time we print a discard from deck ability.

It prevents NPE, such as a broken game state where one player discards enough Lost Soul cards from the deck to ensure another player cannot win.

The main interactions this impacts are Jephthah + Divination/Faith of Isaac, Evil Spawn (D), and cards previously printed that didn’t have the clause mentioned above (Pithom, Stronghold in the Dessert, Egyptian Horsemen, etc.). Obviously Broken Covenant was printed with this change in mind, which is why we left the clause off of that card.

FULL CHANGE LOG:

The following changes were made to REG 3.1.0 Special Abilities.

Special Abilities > When one or more characters are played and have more than one special ability (including gained abilities, cards placed or held), perform the abilities in this order:

Special Abilities > Complete band abilities and exchange abilities that bring a character into battle.

Convert > Default Conditions > Convert abilities are permanent unless a duration is specified.

Discard > Default Conditions > Discard abilities cannot target a Lost Soul card in play unless a Lost Soul target is specified.

Discard > Default Conditions > When a Lost Soul is discarded from a deck it is put into its owner’s Land of Bondage.

Heal > Special Conditions > A heal ability that targets a card in a discard pile includes a search of the pile for the target.

Rescue > Special Conditions > (removed the following superfluous language) Otherwise, if a rescue ability is negated, then the Redeemed Soul is returned to the Land of Bondage it came from and becomes a Lost Soul.

Taunt > Default Conditions > Only the first taunt character to enter battle may use the taunt ability.

Game Update – REG Version (3.1.0)

  • Jonathan Gomez

So only one taunt ability per turn? For example, I can’t use both Goliath’s and Shimei’s taunt on the same turn if I understand correctly?

    • Gabe

That’s correct. If you were to taunt with one and find a way to band the other into battle only the original character’s taunt ability will activate.

    • Rex Adams (Spacy32)

Goliath negates banding anyway so that would be impossible
