Shields Up!

Today we’re taking a peak behind the playtest scene at Shield of Faith.

When we started testing, Shield gave a generic immune to demons, and had a negate component. Breastplate stopped characters. As the shield is the first line of defense we thought it fitting to negate Enhancements. Originally it stopped everything with 2 or more defense, which includes all of the weapon type Enhancements, but leaves traditional powerhouses such as Wrath of Satan and Death of Unrighteous.

When we went through the color changes, it was pretty easy to determine that Shield of Faith should contain the purple brigade – Bartimaeus, Faith of Bartimaeus, Faithfulness of Ananias, Faith as a Mustard Seed, Faithfulness and Great Faith are all purple brigade.

The negate was also changed to be a dynamic X based upon the number of pieces of Armor you have. This is part of the overarching theme. When you only have a shield, your opponent can still hit you in the head. As God’s soldiers we’re called to put on the full armor of God. We wanted the Armor to be stronger as you put on more of them.

We also changed the immunity to line up with the other armor as a protect. Orange as the brigade of demons was an easy choice, and gold was one of the few brigades left (we’d already decided on a couple others for cards you haven’t seen yet).

You’re starting to look like a pretty fearsome warrior. Be sure to check back again tomorrow as we give you another piece of armor to wear.
